On November 7, local time, Iovance, a global leader in TIL (Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes) cell drug development, released its Q3 financial results. The report showed that the significant demand for its TIL therapy, Amtagvi? (Lifileucel), continues strongly, with total product revenue reaching $58.6M (approximately ¥640 million) in Q3 2024.
Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc. is a commercial-stage biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of autologous TIL cell therapies in the United States for treating metastatic melanoma and other solid tumors. The company aims to be a global leader in innovative TIL therapies for cancer patients. The company provides Amtagvi, an autologous T-cell immunotherapy derived from tumors, designed to treat adult patients with unresectable or metastatic melanoma. Additionally, it offers Proleukin, an interleukin-2 product used for treating metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The company is also developing lifileucel in combination with pembrolizumab for first-line treatment of advanced melanoma, LN-145 for treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and solid tumor cancers, and IOV-4001, which is currently in Phase 1/2 of the IOV-GM1-201 clinical trial for NSCLC. Additionally, lifileucel is being investigated for the treatment of gynecologic cancers.
Iovance Biotherapeutics’ TCL product pipeline
Lifileucel is the first globally approved TIL therapy and the first approved T-cell therapy for solid tumors, marking a milestone in cell therapy. Upon approval, it attracted considerable attention from both industry professionals and the public. Iovance has begun global production plans for Amtagvi?, with expected approvals in the UK, EU, and Canada by 2025, and plans to expand into Australia and other high-incidence melanoma countries.
Lifileucel was approved in February this year
Dr. Frederick Vogt, interim President and CEO of Iovance, stated, "Iovance is successfully launching Amtagvi? in the U.S. for patients with advanced melanoma who have previously undergone treatment. With the expansion of Authorized Treatment Centers (ATC) and connections with community oncologists, demand for Amtagvi and Proleukin is rising, along with patient referrals. We anticipate this trend will accelerate throughout the remainder of the year and in the coming years. Therefore, we are actively seeking additional regulatory approvals to expand our commercial footprint beyond the U.S. into new high-incidence melanoma markets. As an integrated research, development, and production company, Iovance is fully equipped to maintain its global leadership in developing and providing innovative TIL cell therapies for current and future generations of cancer patients."
TIL cell therapy is a unique "living" cell therapy where cell counts can be expanded to tens of billions. Unlike CAR-T therapy, TIL therapy involves extracting specific immune cells—tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes—from tumor tissue removed from the patient. These cells act like a valiant "commando unit," engaging cancer cells directly with powerful recognition and attack capabilities. Though limited and precious in initial quantity, these immune cells are cultivated and expanded in the lab, creating a robust TIL cell army.
Once reintroduced into the patient’s body, these cells continuously seek out and destroy cancer cells. Over time, this "living" therapy remains active, with the expanded immune cells capable of swiftly responding to any reappearance of cancer cells, providing patients with long-term anti-cancer protection.
