Wanhua Chemical to Build New 1 Million-Ton Methanol Project!

In July, during the 2025 Lanzhou High-Quality Development and the 31st Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair’s Key Investment Promotion Project Signing Ceremony, Lanzhou New Area successfully signed the Hehai New Energy project with a total investment of 4 billion yuan. This project aims to produce 1 million tons of green methanol annually. Once completed and operational, it is expected to generate an output value of over 2 billion yuan, contribute more than 200 million yuan in tax revenue, and create over 500 jobs.

Zhao Yuning, Director of the Lanzhou New Area Project Construction Center, told reporters that the Hehai New Energy green methanol project signed at the trade fair is of great significance to Lanzhou New Area and its chemical industry park. It will strongly promote the development of the methanol-to-olefins and organosilicon industrial chains. Hehai New Energy Group Co., Ltd. is a clean and smart energy investment platform under Wanhua Chemical Group (stock code 600309). It is a mixed-ownership enterprise jointly established by Wanhua Chemical Group and Jiangsu Hehai New Energy Co., Ltd., with a registered capital of 2 billion yuan. The company is dedicated to the investment and operation of urban energy (cooling, heating, electricity, and gas). It is one of the largest professional urban clean energy investors in China and the only clean energy company domestically and internationally that possesses corrugated plate heat transfer technology. On February 26, Hehai New Energy Group officially signed a tripartite cooperation framework agreement for a 200,000-ton green methanol production project with the government of Zhangqiu District in Jinan City and Mingquan Group Co., Ltd.

The Jinan East City Green Methanol Project adopts globally advanced ion liquid gasification, electrolysis, and synthesis technologies to achieve green raw materials, low-carbon energy consumption, and high-efficiency processes. Upon completion, the project is expected to:

1. Provide stable industrial steam, supplying about 625,000 tons annually;
2. Stably produce green methanol, with an annual output of 400,000 tons;
3. Save approximately 207,100 tons of standard coal per year, reduce CO? emissions by 542,700 tons, cut SO? emissions by 1,760.63 tons, and reduce NOx emissions by 1,532.79 tons annually.
