Nitrobenzene Market Analysis

Market Intelligence Report on p-Nitrobenzene-Related Products (May 27, 2026)

I. Core Product Price Dynamics
1. **p-Nitrophenylacetic Acid**
- **Latest Quotation**: Shandong Aite Chemical Co., Ltd. quotes RMB 180,000/ton (≥99.0% purity, 25 kg/drum), with delivery in Shandong Province.
- **Market Characteristics**: Premium pricing reflecting inelastic demand from pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediate sectors for high-purity raw materials.

2. **p-Nitrochlorobenzene**
- **Historical Trend**: Prices surged from RMB 4,300/ton in February 2026 to RMB 7,000/ton—a 62.8% increase—driven by scheduled plant maintenance at major producers, permanent shutdown of Nanhua Chemical’s capacity, and recovery in downstream dye demand.
- **Short-Term Outlook**: Prices may remain range-bound at elevated levels if the supply deficit persists.

3. **3,4-Dichloronitrobenzene**
- **Benchmark Price**: RMB 25,000/ton (as of April 29, 2026); prices in the East China region are 2–3% lower than those in North and South China.
- **Supply–Demand Balance**: China accounts for over 60% of global capacity; operating rates stand at 80–82%; export volume is projected to reach 55,000 tons in 2026.
- **Cost Structure**: Benzene accounts for 45% of production cost; chlorine gas, 15%; nitric acid, 20%; estimated per-ton production cost ranges from RMB 21,000 to RMB 22,000.

II. Key Link Analysis Across the Industrial Chain
1. **Upstream Raw Material Impact**
- **Benzene Price Volatility**: Average benzene price in 2025 was RMB 8,200/ton; if international crude oil prices exceed USD 90/barrel in 2026, benzene prices could rise to RMB 9,000/ton, compressing profit margins for p-nitrobenzene derivatives.
- **Chlorine Gas Supply**: Stable at RMB 2,800/ton; however, tightening environmental regulations have increased nitric acid costs by 10%, indirectly raising nitration reaction costs.

2. **Downstream Application Drivers**
- **Dye Industry**: Accounts for 65% of total demand; textile printing & dyeing recovery is boosting consumption—global demand for p-nitroaniline is projected to reach 129,200 tons in 2026.
- **Agrochemical Industry**: Accounts for 20% of demand; annual growth in intermediates for herbicides (e.g., Diuron) is 5–6%.
- **Pharmaceutical Industry**: Accounts for 10% of demand; annual growth in intermediates for anticancer drugs is 8–10%; premium markets require purity ≥99.5%.

3. **Regional Market Divergence**
- **East China Advantage**: Concentrated capacity in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces enables lower logistics costs, resulting in prices 2–3% below those in other regions.
- **Export Orientation**: Expanding textile industries in Southeast Asia and India constitute China’s primary export markets; export volume reached 50,000 tons in 2025.

III. Policy and Environmental Constraints
1. **Capacity Optimization**: All outdated production capacity will be fully phased out by 2026; industry CR5 concentration ratio will rise from 70% to 75%; leading enterprises have adopted continuous-flow microreactor technology to achieve nitration yields exceeding 90%.
2. **Environmental Compliance Costs**: NO? emission reduction investments add RMB 500/ton to production cost; upgraded EU REACH regulations mandate ≥99.5% purity for exported products—driving investment in purification upgrades.
3. **Policy Support**: Chlorinated nitroaromatic intermediates have been included in the national “Key Guaranteed Production List”, requiring domestic self-sufficiency of core capacity to reach ≥85% by end-2025.

IV. Technological Trends and Risks
1. **Green Process Breakthroughs**: Catalytic nitration technology is expected to enter pilot application in 2027, reducing energy consumption per ton by 15–20%.
2. **Intelligent Manufacturing Transformation**: Leading enterprises leverage AI to optimize reaction parameters, lifting gross margins to 18–20%; SMEs face margin compression to 8–10% due to insufficient environmental compliance investment.
3. **Substitution Risk**: Accelerated adoption of microchannel reactors and related technologies poses an imminent obsolescence risk for SMEs failing to upgrade promptly.

V. Price Trend Forecast
1. **Short Term (1 Month)**:
- p-Nitrochlorobenzene: Prices likely to hold steady between RMB 6,500–7,000/ton if supply constraints persist.
- 3,4-Dichloronitrobenzene: Post–Spring Festival demand recovery may lift prices to RMB 25,000–25,500/ton in March.
2. **Medium-to-Long Term (6–12 Months)**:
- High-end segment (e.g., pharmaceutical-grade p-nitroaniline): Rising purity requirements may drive structural price increases.
- Export market: Demand growth in Southeast Asia may offset risks from U.S./EU trade friction; however, geopolitical disruptions to logistics require close monitoring.
3. **Risk Warnings**:
- Sharp benzene price hikes could trigger upstream cost pass-through across the value chain—international oil prices and pure benzene market dynamics must be closely tracked.
- Stricter environmental enforcement may force SME shutdowns, exacerbating regional supply tightness.

About Nitrobenzene

Nitrobenzene is a synthetic, volatile compound produced primarily for use to manufacture aniline. It is also used as a solvent in refining petroleum and lubricating oils, and in production of dyes, synthetic rubber, pesticides, and drugs including acetaminophen and metoclopramide. Small amounts of nitrobenzene are used as a flavoring agent for soaps and as a solvent for shoe dyes (HSDB, 2009; IARC, 1996). Dinitrobenzene isomers (1, 2-, 1, 3-, and 1, 4-) are used in organic synthesis of dyes, pesticides, and industrial solvents. 1,3-Dinitrobenzene and 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene are chemicals found in the production of explosives.Nitrobenzene and all isomers (1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-) of dinitrobenzene can be absorbed by all routes of exposures and may cause irritation in the respiratory tract and skin. 1,3- Dinitrobenzene and 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene are of severe explosive hazard.
Nitrobenzene has a single nitro group attached to a benzene ring. It is an oily yellow liquid with an almond-like odor.It is moderately soluble in water (1.9 g/l at 20 °C) and is soluble in alcohol, acetone, ether, and benzene (IARC, 1996). It has an explosive limit of 1.8% by volume in air, representing a fire hazard.

This chemical is included in Fine Chemicals. See more about what is Nitrobenzene and Nitrobenzene SDS information.
